United States COVID-19 travel ban on travelers from India

Chugh, LLP immigration attorney Diya Mathews appeared on National Public Radio (NPR) radio station WHYY on May 5, 2021 to discuss the United States COVID-19 travel ban on travelers from India.

The policy bans individuals from entering the United States if they have been present in India during the previous 14 days to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Some people are excluded from the ban, including US citizens, green card holders, their spouses and children, and certain other categories.

During the interview, Diya Mathews discusses the potential impact of the ban on American universities and businesses, strategies to enter the US from other countries, and the impact of US Consulate closures in India.

The open-ended proclamation can be extended by the president every 30 days. Because the policy is based on COVID-19 infection data, Diya Mathews is hopeful that a drop in India’s COVID-19 rates will lead to the travel ban’s end.
