U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been accepting applications from citizens of India for its Global Entry program since July 3, 2017.
Global Entry allows expedited processing for pre-approved, low-risk travelers when they arrive in the US at select airports. Instead of standing in line, program members proceed to Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingerprints on the scanner for fingerprint verification and complete a customs declaration. The kiosk issues a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit. Aside from avoiding processing lines and paperwork, another benefit of the program is TSA Precheck eligibility.
The application process for citizens of India are as follows.
Once approved for Global Entry, membership will be valid for 5 years. While the program’s goal is to expedite the process, travelers enrolled in the program may still be selected for further examination. Also, any violation of the program’s terms and conditions may lead to termination of the traveler’s membership privileges and other appropriate enforcement action.
CBP has yet to release information on the processing time for applications filed by citizens of India.
